Goodness it’s prolific. If only I could churn out writing the same way I’m using up Kleenex. Wait, cart before the horse! If only I could churn out Confidence — and the writing would follow. Confidence gets to play a much bigger role in this drama — my life all of a sudden, and I’m still trying to find it and dust it off so it doesn’t miss its cues.
So it’s the waiting day, waiting for the phone to ring with a yea or a nay. In the meantime, I’m cranking out some commercial writing samples in an effort to put a package together to send out to local non-profits. Cathy asked me what my dream gig is, and I’m going to say a weekly or a monthly newsletter that I can not only write, but also design. Fill in some blanks with PSAs, flyers, business cards, web content, and I think that’s a well-rounded living.

I’ve heard from a couple of people that it’s a good idea to join the local chamber of commerce, and would love to hear more thoughts on that. Is it worth the membership dues? If you have joined, do you attend meetings, and networking luncheons? Have you generated work for yourself out of the pool of contacts? My inclination is to join, it sounds like the smart thing to do, but at the same time I’m looking at the $135 dues as several cans of paint, and weather treatment for the deck. It’s a hard call this week.
I have this one sinking sadness, that I’ll be crossing market gardener off of my signature line for the time being. I love seeing that there, and I’m really going to miss the experience. We decided last night that I’m going to go ahead and plant a few things here anyway, things that don’t need a whole lot of daily maintenance. Potatoes, chard, pumpins, winter squash, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, kale, collards, beets. Maybe some pole beans, and damn I’m tempted to put in a bunch of bush beans but once they’re ready they need daily picking. I just won’t have that kind of time. But we’ll be back and forth fixing up this place for a while, so I can do some gardening, and if I mulch the plants heavily like I did last year, they’ll do fine without regular watering. We had weeks of dry last summer, and the mulched plants thrived.
The upshot of this, maybe I can get a few weeks in at the market, just for the love of it, towards the end of the season. The next year, I’ll have more beds established at the new place and with careful planning I could potentially do a half season. It’s not a goodbye forever, just for now.
Isn’t the driveway pretty?

"All through the long winter, I dream of my garden. On the first day of spring, I dig my fingers deep into the soft earth. I can feel its energy, and my spirits soar."

Hey, I think the Chamber of Commerce is a great idea.
Networking is the best way to get going. I find I
have to spend money to make money and when I do it
always pays off ten-fold! Better than the stock market
….except that I then have to do the work. Oh, well!!
